Calzaghe defeats Roy Jones Jr. By
The results of the much anticipated bout between Joe Calzaghe vs. Roy Jones Jr. are here. Results: Calzaghe over Jones. A cut Roy Jones Jr. was able to last 12 rounds with a now somewhat more proved fighter, Joe Calzaghe. Joe Calzaghe was able to see an opening, throw and connect. Roy Jones looked slower, couldn’t prevent shots from landing, and just wasn’t the better fighter period. There was no question, no controversy. Regardless of age and what country a fighter fought in throughout their career, The “Pride of Whales” can continue to be the “Pride of Whales” and remains undefeated. His career record now includes a demanding win over Roy Jones Jr., a Roy Jones Jr. who so confidently said “there was no way”. Well there was a way and Joe Calzaghe found it. Calzaghe also found the face and body of Jones many times and Jones definitely felt them and the proof showed as he sported a big gash above an eye and other bumps and bruises. Joe Calzaghe’s confidence and great boxing skills allowed him to totally control the fight and he did. For Calzaghe fans though there was a scary moment. Roy Jones Jr. showed signs of greatness as he caught the chin of Calzaghe in the 1st and dropped him to a knee immediately. This really stunned Calzaghe but he fought through it. He eventually settled down, got it together and began to control the fight. Calzaghe was the better, faster, stronger, even slicker fighter. We aren’t going to bash Roy Jones Jr. for talking too much and then showing that he did more talk than act. We know that he is an 8 time World Champion and was voted “Fighter of The Decade” so for this we will just say the truth. Roy Jones Jr. was beaten by Joe Calzaghe. Roy Jones fought hard, did land shots, but was definitely behind Calzaghe throughout the fight. Joe Calzaghe defeats Roy Jones Jr.

"Dominance" was introduced to the NW MMA scene last night as the Tri-City MMA crew presented their inaugural show in the Benton County Fairgrounds to an enthusiastic crowd. 10 Amateur MMA bouts plus one Novice Kickboxing matchup filled out this first card, and every fight was entertaining leading up to the 2 Title bouts that rounded out the evening.
For the Lightweight Title, Tyson Johnson of Yakima MMA's "Team Guerin" and Jamason Hensley of Vancouver, WA's "Xtreme Couture" went nearly two full rounds in back and forth action. The fight ended with Johnson dropping Hensley in an exchange and then finishing him on the ground with some hard shots just 2 secs before the bell.
The Featherweight belt went to "Xtreme Couture's" Austin Springer who weathered a tight Triangle choke attempt in the 1st round by Troy Berglund of Richland, WA's "Progressive Jui-Jistu" and then came out hard in the 2nd to take out Berglund with his fists.

FORMER UFC CHAMP EVAN TANNER DEAD AT 37
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight titleholder Evan Tanner was found dead near Palo Verde, Calif. on Monday. He was 37 years old. His management team at DFS Agency confirmed his death to MMAWeekly.com.
Tanner had trekked into the desert on a journey to “cleanse” himself, according to Douglas Vincitorio of DFS. “He went out to the desert to do a ‘cleansing’ as he called it. Kind of like ‘Survivor Man.’” These short trips were not new to Tanner, said Vincitorio. It is something that he has done numerous times over the years.
“What we were told is that (sheriff’s officials who found him) believe his motorcycle had run out of gas, so he went to walk out in like 115 to 118-degree heat,” said Vincitorio. “He was miles away from his camp. That’s where the helicopter found him. Right now, they just think that he succumbed to the heat.”
